New Orleans Pelicans, USA star Anthony Davis out of Rio Olympics

USA forward Anthony Davis confirms that he will be forced to miss this summer's Olympic basketball tournament in Rio de Janeiro because of injury.

New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis has confirmed that he will miss this summer's Rio Olympics through injury.

The Pelicans announced yesterday that Davis would miss the rest of the NBA season as he requires surgery on knee and shoulder injuries.

Davis then told reporters today that he would be absent from the USA's Olympic squad for the basketball tournament in Rio.

The 23-year-old was the first pick in the 2012 NBA Draft and went on to win gold at the last Olympics in London later that summer.
