Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: 'Danny Welbeck looks very sharp'

Wenger: 'Welbeck looks very sharp'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that Danny Welbeck is looking "sharp" as he fills in up front for Thursday's Europa League tie.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that he is confident Danny Welbeck can lead the line in Thursday's Europa League last-32 first leg against Ostersunds FK.

The former Manchester United forward is the club's only realistic option given that Alexandre Lacazette is nursing a knee injury and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is cup-tied.

During his pre-match press conference, Wenger said: "It's an opportunity for him to do well. I have seen today he is sharper than a long time.

"He had to wait a little to get back into the team, but that gave him time to work on his fitness. He looks sharper than he has in a long time - he looks very sharp."

Arsenal are under pressure to respond to last weekend's 1-0 defeat to arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
